about_imageLauren Watson was born April 13, 1957 and grew up the fourth of five daughters in Simsbury, Connecticut. In her youth she spent hours walking through the wilderness on well-trodden paths, communing with nature, considering life’s scientific and spiritual substance. She conjured up fantastic visions of how to combine elements of science and spirituality in a meaningful career one day.

Her father, a pharmacist and historian, served in a traditional Armenian Church as Archdeacon in Hartford, CT. Her mother, a loving, caring home maker, also served in the church. Lauren and her sisters sang in the choir. Armenian Get-Aways gave her weekends away to make new friends of her ethnic descent and experience more of life.

She and her parents were also involved with the Freemasons, a fraternal organization of which George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were members. Indoctrinated by the rituals of the Rainbow Girls, and later Eastern Star, Lauren’s intrigue with religious mysteries, secret codes and ciphers grew sharply.

Her father pushed for an arranged marriage by the age of eighteen. But Lauren would have none of that; her free-spirited nature and boldness to choose her own destiny had already replaced such old world values.

Lauren’s family has an appreciation for the arts. Her father played the violin and boumbek (a Middle Eastern drum), and she played piano and guitar. The classical arts expanded her creativity as she ventured into pencil etchings, oil on canvas, stained glass designs, and tap dancing. As a youngster Lauren was fascinated with movies about ‘pirates finding buried treasure’. These would inspire her to create treasure hunts for her sisters and friends at home. She wrote challenging Nostradamus-like quatrains and anagrams, where the thought-provoking answer would lead to the next hidden clue.

Lauren’s love for education has known no bounds. Her degrees and studies at Central CT State University and the University of Connecticut include Chemistry, Biology, Physics, M.I.S. and advanced work in Applied Genomics. She has held professional positions as a senior programmer business analyst, database administrator, and project manager with United Technologies and insurance and financial companies in Hartford, CT. Since her twenties, Lauren has nurtured a strong metaphysical side that has involved group meditations, spoon bending, witnessing paranormal and psychic events which fortify her writing.

Lauren is not a natural born writer, but has been driven to learn about writing since 2007. That summer she had profound, heart-pounding dreams of espionage characters and plots that took her by storm. From her immense imagination, she passionately writes stories featuring intriguing characters while weaving threads of mystery into her plots. Free association while google searching material has become a cornerstone of her writing process. She dreams of her first effort, Homo transcendi Mission, becoming a breakthrough work.

Lauren juggles life by holding a traditional job by day, writing week nights and weekends, while spending quality time with her husband, Rusty, and white blue-eyed Siamese cat, Mardi. She is active with writing group associations—CTRWA and Sisters in Crime— and has dynamic one-on-ones with her writing coach, Kat, which bolsters her imagination and connection with other writers.
